The TRA chaired the General Assembly of the Arab Regulatory Authorities of this year; hence, the UAE hosted the Meeting of the Arab Regulators Network (ARNET), which took place on April 21, 2007, at Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Center. The ARNET, gathered regulators and administrations in charge of the regulation of the telecommunications and information technologies sector of the Arab region.
The objectives of ARNET were to exchange experiences in the field of the regulation of telecommunications, the coordination in view of accomplishing the homogeneity of the practices of regulation in the Arab countries, to work out policies and models of regulations, and to place equitable and transparent procedures so as to encourage development and modernization of telecommunications networks and services, as well as information technologies in the Arab world. |

| Among the missions of the ARNET was the contribution in the constitution of human capacities of its members due to the exchange of experiences and the collaboration in training, as well as by the follow-up of worldwide evolutions of the sector in order to facilitate their integration in the Arab world. The ARNET also encouraged the generalization of regulation authorities to all Arab countries, the collaboration with the regional and international institutions and other regulators networks within the limits of objectives allocated to the Network, and the contribution in the creation of an attractive environment for investments in the Arab region. Yet, one of the most important issues addressed in the meeting, was the roaming charges between the Arab countries, and how to apply transparency in the roaming prices among Arab operators working in the region. |
