   The TRA Honored the UAE Team that Participated in The World Radio-communication Conference 2007 in Geneva

Chairman, the Supreme Committee for the Supervision of the Telecom Sector

The UAE Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) organized an honoring ceremony at Emirates Palace in Abu Dhabi for the UAE Team that participated in the World Radio-communication Conference 2007 (WRC-07) in Geneva, which took place from 22 October – 17 November 2007.

The ceremony was attended by H.E. Eng. Sultan Bin Saeed Al-Mansouri, UAE Minister for the Development of the Government Sector and the Chairman of the UAE Supreme Committee for the Supervision of the Telecommunications Sector, H.E. Mohamed Al Ghanim, TRA Board Member & Director General, and representative from the General Headquarters of the UAE Armed Forces, the Ministry of Interior, Emirates Media, the Civil Aviation Authority, Dubai Civil Aviation Authority, Etisalat, Du, Thuraya, and YahSat; along with the Head of the UAE Team, Eng. Tariq Al-Awadhi, Director of Spectrum Affairs at the TRA.

Minister Al-Mansouri delivered the opening address, saying: “The UAE has been honored to coordinate the tasks of the Arab delegation in the Conference, reflecting the confidence of the Arab countries in the abilities of the UAE. However, for the TRA to head the UAE delegation that encompasses the most successful public and private institutes and companies is an appreciated proof of the trust of such parties in the TRA.”

“The TRA that is supervised by the Supreme Committee for the Supervision of the Telecom Sector, which I have the privilege of chairing, has successfully prepared for the Conference for the past four years within the national committee assigned to prepare for the Conference in full coordination with the General Headquarters of the UAE Armed Forces, the Ministry of Interior, Emirates Media, the Civil Aviation Authority, Dubai Civil Aviation Authority, Etisalat, Du, Thuraya, and YahSat. The outcome of the combined efforts and planning among these various parties resulted in great achievements that were materialized via decisions that served the interests of the Arab group in general and the UAE in specific,” Al-Mansouri added.

Minister Al-Mansouri continued: “Among the achievements of the UAE delegation, the ITU adoption of a member of the delegation to Vice-Chair the ITU 4TH Radio-communication Study Group that is responsible for the space services activities for the coming four years until the next WRC in 2011; as well as accrediting the TRA representative to the ITU as the Reporter of the 3rd Chapter of the Preliminary Meeting for the coming four years also.”

However, after Minister Al-Mansouri congratulated the UAE General Headquarters Armed Forces and the TRA for their successful work that generated the best results through their permanent representation of the UAE to the ITU, he concluded his speech, saying: “I cannot but stress that these continuous successes that the UAE delegation witnessed in the Conference, are a factual result to the guidance of H.H Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahayan, President of the UAE, and H.H Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.”

In his turn, Eng. Al-Awadhi delivered the TRA presentation, which headed the UAE Team, where he explained the preparations prior to the Conference and the Team’s work during the Conference along with the achievements after the Conference. He also talked about the preparations for the coming Conference in 2011 via establishing a strong team to maintain the gains achieved by the present team. Eng. Al-Awadhi emphasized that the team has learned from the participation, especially with respect to leadership, cooperation, good preparation, listening and negotiating with various departments.

Eng. Al-Awadhi went into the details of the preparations for the Conference through the meetings of the National Team in the UAE and on the Gulf and Arab levels through the Permanent Arab Team for Spectrum; along with the participation in the ITU committees and work teams related to the Conference agenda provisions, by presenting the CPM agenda that Eng. Nasser Bin Hammad headed fort three years.

Before Eng. Al-Awadhi finalized his presentation by stating the Team’s achievements, he talked about the work of the Team during the Conference such as attending continuous meetings with the Permanent Arab Team for Spectrum and following up and coordinating 18 provisions out of the 23 provisions of the Conference, on behalf of the Arab Group.

The presentations were followed by the distribution of the certificates of appreciation and the awards, honoring the UAE Team for their efforts and achievements. The ceremony was concluded by a luncheon.

Yet, the TRA Communications Department honored the media representatives who attended the ceremony.
