Telecommunications Regulatory Authority Actively Participates in "ISNR Abu Dhabi 2010"

TRA organizes a full day of workshops and panel discussions under the theme “The Role of Telecommunications in International Security & Risk Prevention”
TRA signs three MOUs with government agencies to improve the security of their ICT infrastructure

Under the patronage of H.H General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, International Security and National Resilience 2010 (ISNR) took place from 1-3 March 2010 at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre. The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) sponsored ISNR, the largest event of its kind in the region to address current and future dangers caused by growing security and safety concerns and homeland security. On the t hird day of ISNT 2010, TRA organized a full day conference on the sidelines of the conference under the theme “The Role of Telecommunications in International Security & Risk Prevention”. This active participation comes in light of the growing emphasis on cyber safety, especially in national security matters. The full day workshops and panels discussed issues such as Digital & Multimedia Evidence Forensics, National Security in the Information Age, The Criminal Use of Social networks, Introduction to Malware from the Criminal Side, Building Digital Forensics Capabilities, and Trends in International Cyber Law Enforcement: The Dark Side of the Internet. TRA’s conference also included participation of internationally recognized experts and specialists from the field, as well as participation from the UAE.

During the conference, managed and organized by TRA’s Computer Emergency Response Team (aeCERT), HE Mohamed Nasser Al Ghanim Spoke of the importance of ensuring a digitally secure and safe environment in protecting national security”, adding that “such panels and seminars are most important as they provide the perfect platform to discuss, disseminate knowledge and exchange best practices and expertise.”

The full day conference saw participation form key renowned people in the field of IT and cyber security including: Richard Perlotto, Director, shadowserver, Dr. Andrew Johns, Professor at the University of Khalifa, Paul Nicholas, Director of Global Security Strategy and Diplomacy, Trustworthy Computing, Microsoft Corporation, Larry D. Depew, PMP<, President DigitalForensics.US, Marcus J. Ranum, CSO, Tenable Network Security, Inc, Steve Anson, Managing Director Forward Discovery Middle East, Sean Hoar, Assistant United States Attorney, US Department of Justice, Mr. Ibrahim Hamza Al Malouhi, Director-Risk Management & Quality Assurance, Du, Mr. Abdulla Saqer Al Marri, Director – IT, Public Prosecution, and Mr. Rashid Majed Al Abbar, Director, Etisalat.

TRA also had an active participation through its aeCERT stand at ISNR Exhibition floor, the stand provided an active point to disseminate knowledge on digital and cyber security, and provided for a platform to highlight potential dangers and threats affecting digital infrastructures. The stand saw signing of three Memorandum of Understandings (MoUs) with government entities; Abu Dhabi Company for Onshore Oil Operations ADCO, Abu Dhabi Health Authority, and Mohammed Bin Rashid Housing Est. to improve the security and safety of their ICT infrastructure by benefiting form the services provided by aeCERT.  

The International Security and National Resilience (ISNR) Exhibition and Conference closed last week an overwhelmingly positive note, registering a record number of 8,000 visitors. Two hundred and eighteen companies from 24 countries exhibited their state-of-the-art homeland security solutions and products at the show. Official delegations led by international government ministers and other state and private dignitaries were among those who attended, representing a total of 54 nations at the three day event held in Abu Dhabi. Multimillion dollar deals were concluded between government agencies and exhibitors at the show.

ISNR 2010 included a high level conference, attended by more than 850 members, and a series of workshops, presented by an elite group of advisors, suggesting innovative solutions to today's homeland security challenges. The sessions were aimed at raising awareness on the most pressing issues, including counter-terrorism, cyber-security, intelligence and threat assessment, crisis management, border and transport security, critical infrastructure protection, and emergency preparedness and response.
