The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) is representing the United Arab Emirates (UAE) at the Conference of the International Communication Union (ITU) Council that will take place on 4 – 14 September 2007, at the ITU headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland. The TRA delegate is headed by the Chairman of the UAE Supreme Committee for the Supervision of the Telecommunications Sector, H.E. Eng. Sultan Bin Saeed Al-Mansouri, UAE Minister for the Development of the Government Sector, accompanied by senior TRA staff headed by H.E. Mohamed Nasser Al Ghanim, TRA Board Member & Director General, and Mr. Tariq Al-Awadhi, TRA Director of Spectrum Affairs.

In this respect, H.E. Mohamed Al Ghanim, commented: “It is for the first time that the UAE is participating in this conference after acquiring the membership of the ITU Council when the UAE succeeded in the elections for a seat in the Council at the ITU Plenipotentiary Conference in Antalya, Turkey, in November 2006.”

In his turn, Mr.Tariq Al-Awadhi , stated: “This event is considered one of the most important and leading conferences of the ITU that tackles the developments of the ITU plans and actions with respect to the prosperity and enhancement of the ICT infrastructures at the developing and less developed countries.”

The Conference first day, however, will witness the participation of the Ministers of Communications of the Council Member States to discuss the ITU role in filling the digital gap and building a comprehensive information society for each party.
