TRA Conducts Workshop for Sharjah Police

The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) conducted an introductory workshop for Sharjah Police aiming to discuss common goals and ways of possible co-operation.

The objectives of the workshop were to provide members of Sharjah Police with the necessary information regarding TRA responsibilities as well as some of the authority’s policies and regulations. Furthermore, the workshop outlined the TRA and Internet Service Providers (ISPs) technical methods to protect the public by blocking harmful content.

The efforts paid by Sharjah Police to protect the society from the harmful internet content, were also discussed in the meeting.

Eng. Mohammed Gheyath, the Executive Director at the TRA said: “We are delighted to further cooperate with Sharjah Police. After signing a Memorandum of Understanding last year, to develop mutual cooperation regarding the Cyber crimes, the workshop aims to enhance the joint cooperation.

Furthermore, the workshop offered a quick overview on the internet access policy, categories of the blocked sites and procedures that should be taken to report any violation. The workshop shed also light on the role of some sections in the authority, in addition to some related supervisory and technical tasks of the TRA.

The event was held on January 11, 2011, in the TRA Dubai branch and was attended by employees from both Sharjah Police and the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority.
