TRA Launches Major Blood Donation Campaign

February 15, 2011

In cope with its strategy aiming to play an active role in the social life, The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) has teamed up with Dubai Blood Donation Center to lead a major blood donation campaign. The campaign took place today February 15 in TRA Dubai office from 09:00 till 13:30. The TRA launched a similar campaign in January 2011 in its Headquarter in Abu Dhabi and Khalidiyah office.

The blood donation campaign is part of the Authority's policy and commitment to social responsibility, where the TRA has previously took part in many initiatives and community projects such as the "Echo of Silence" project, organizing periodic visits paid by TRA personal to hospitals and health institutes and sponsor or take part in activities that highlight social challenges.

H.E. Mohamed Nasser Al Ghanim, TRA Director General said, “We are eager to take part in programs embody values on social responsibility. We always encourage our employees to take part in the social initiatives that serve our community.”

“Social responsibility is a very important part of our strategy, the TRA is eager to play an active role within the Emirati society. We developed and launched many initiatives that were tailored to improve the quality of the people’s life.” added Al Ghanim.

Studies have shown that people who donate blood regularly gain many health benefits including increasing activity of the bone marrow to produce new quantities of blood and increase the activity of the circulatory system as well as to reduce the proportion of iron in the blood and reduces the risk of heart disease and clogged arteries.

“We organized two blood campaigns in Abu Dhabi and Dubai to ensure the maximum benefit. Our employees were keen to participate in the blood campaigns. I hope that the blood we donated will help to rescue other’s life”. Al Ghanim explained.

The TRA Blood donation campaign was organized under direct supervision of medical personnel to guarantee the safety of the donor. Many intensive tests and examinations conducted on each unit of the blood to figure out its type, as well as make sure they are free from infectious diseases that can be transmitted through blood such as AIDS, hepatitis (b / c), syphilis, malaria and other viral diseases. Blood can be only used when it is proven free of infectious disease.
