TRA Participates in Planet of the Apps Arabia 2011

The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) participated in the Planet of the Apps Arabia 2011, an event dedicated to mobile applications. H.E. Mohamed Nasser Al Ghanim, TRA Director General delivered the welcome address on April 19. The event took place at the One & Only Royal Mirage, Dubai, April 18 – 20.

With a two-day conference and exhibition, developer day, live debates, case studies prepared by industry professionals and interactive panel discussions, Planet of the Apps Arabia 2011 offered the participants a wide range of information covering all aspects of the apps industry.

“The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority is eager to provide the appropriate environment for developers to find all the required tools to create these applications. Early in our planning process, we adopted a clear strategy to encourage and support developers in the area. The UAE government follows a mandate to establish a strong and state-of-art infrastructure, issue the type of regulations that allow business to flourish and ensure that competition and transparency are well applied in the market,” said Mohamed Nasser Al Ghanim.

In his speech, Al Ghanim remarked on the UAE vision which aims to create a world-class ICT environment that can function as a catalyst for the economic development process. Al Ghanim also reviewed the current situation of the mobile apps industry along with the challenges facing it and the future potential that make it one of the most promising economic sectors particularly in the GCC market.

The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority aims to create an enabling environment in which the UAE's ICT sector will emerge as a leader in the global market place. It also supports the UAE ICT sector by promoting cyber security practices, protecting the interests of subscribers, enhancing the readiness of e-services, and encouraging investment, innovation, development and education, meeting corporate social responsibilities and implementing best practices in regulation and supervision.
