The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) is participating in the Global Space and Satellite Forum (GSSF), being held in Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Company (ADNEC). The event was inaugurated by H.H. Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, who delivered the opening address.
The TRA participates in this forum with the aim of familiarizing attendees with the authority and its role in regulating the ICT sector in the UAE in general, and in the field of space and satellite service in particular. The event includes several important functions, for example, the two days conference, the workshop on the third day and the exhibition.
In this context, Mohamed Nasser Al Ghanim, TRA Director General stated that: “ The Global Space and Satellite Forum will focus on commercial opportunities as well as military and humanitarian requirements which create an urgent need for sustainable space and satellite programs all over the Middle East.”
“The Global Space and Satellite Forum (GSSF) conference is a platform for exploring the commercial space and satellite technology we use every day. It addresses the many ways in which space systems improve our lives, ranging from life-saving developments in the field of disaster management to the delivery of entertainment media via handheld consumer devices.” He added.
In addition to the several moderated discussions during the conference program, there will be opportunities for networking at round table sessions, workshops and site visits. The event witnessed the attendance of several official and non-official delegations with the aim of meeting experts in the field of space and satellite technologies. The event was also attended by representatives of National American Space Agency (NASA), European Space Agency (ESA) and Mr. François Rancy, Manager of Radio communication Bureau, International Telecommunication Union (ITU), who delivered an opening speech at the inauguration session. He also held discussion sessions with representatives of Governments and regional organizations and private companies in the sector of space and satellite technologies. Other senior representatives also delivered speeches on the present trends witnessed by the space and satellite sector, including regulatory policy, advances in technology and innovative applications at present times.
