The Telecommunication Regulatory Authority (TRA) represented by the National Computer Emergency Team (aeCERT) – a TRA initiative – has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Labour (MOL) during GITEX. This step aims at providing the ministry with aeCERT expertise in terms of electronic awareness and data safeguarding that could breach the ministry’s electronic well being.

The MoU was signed during the currently on-going GITEX Exhibition in the presence of H.E. Mohamed Nasser Al Ghanim, Director General of the TRA, and Dr. Aisha Bati Bin Bishr, Director of Corporate Excellence and the supporting body at the Ministry of Labour, who both stated the importance of mutual cooperation to limit electronic threats.
The MoU comes as a part of the authority’s policy and vision that adheres to providing a safeguarded cyber environment so that individuals as well as businesses could achieve the utmost IT benefits. It also contributes to securing a safe platform preserving the public from cyber threats that usually target the destruction of the IT infrastructure and at times seek to embezzle confidential information.
In his statement, H.E. Mohamed Nasser Al Ghanim, Director General of the TRA, stressed the importance of signing the MoU: “The United Arab Emirates has come far in the e-government evolution where authorities and governmental agencies execute the majority of their services via the Information and Communication Technology, which marks the importance of founding a safeguarded cyber security infrastructure.”
Al Ghanim added: “The MoU offers the Ministry of Labour the opportunity to benefit from the aeCERT expertise in securing an immune cyber environment that contributes to innovation and creativity.”
The MoU sets the framework for IT barter that could be utilized to anticipate cyber threats and respond to it. Through this framework, the team will have the ability to identify potential threats and support the electronic system of the ministry, in addition to working on developing its response methodology and procedures.
The automated aeCERT team aims at enhancing the standards and practice of IT security. It also commits to preserving a safeguarded cyber security infrastructure in parallel with the TRA strategy which aims at securing a safe electronic outer space for the country, its citizens and residents.
