TRA Sponsors World Summit Award-Mobile

December 07, 2010

DG Speach in the Event

The Telecommunication Regulatory Authority (TRA) announced that it will be a key sponsor for the coming World Summit Award-Mobile (WSA). The event is held under the auspices of the Government of Abu Dhabi and in co-operation with the United Nations and its Global Alliance for ICT and Development and Government and business partners from around the world.

The World Summit Award Mobile is a global initiative to select and promote the world’s top mobile contents and innovative applications. In cooperation with the United Nations’ World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS), it is based on the expertise and network of the World Summit Awards and planned to be held every two years. National pre-selections are carried out in each of the 160 countries participating.

H.E. Mohamed Nasser Al Ghanim, TRA Director General said: “The World Summit Award Mobile is a global initiative to select and promote the world’s best in mobile content and innovative applications. TRA is always keen to participate in the ICT events especially those who target a wide segment of audience.”

WAS-mobile is considered also a unique Networking Event with the most outstanding mobile content designers and innovative application developers from around the world. The award started in 2010 in the framework of the United Nation’s World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS).

The WSA Mobile events in Abu Dhabi aim to anchor the United Nations based WSA-mobile Network in Abu Dhabi with a major initiative and thus give Abu Dhabi unique international visibility by hosting the WSA-mobile Events in 2010, 2012 and 2014 and to develop Abu Dhabi as key node in the global e-Content development and thus as premier place for Arab e-Content through a horizontal innovation network and centre.

It means also to put the focus on mobile, creative content, innovative applications and thus on the future of mobile broadband usage and thus extend the range of contents from games, navigation and social networks.

Furthermore, the WSA-Mobile events endeavor to develop the cooperation with a five year perspective toward the UN Summit Review on Information Society in 2015 in order to show unique activity and concrete results at the Summit as part of the UAE ICT efforts.
