In line with its strategy to develop the telecommunications sector in the UAE by encouraging investment, innovation, development and education, the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) sponsored the Zayed University IT competition. The competition was organized by the College of Information Technology, Zayed University- Abu Dhabi and took place on Thursday, April 28.

The competition received approximately 116 submissions in three categories from various countries such as Jordan, Palestine, Syria, Lebanon, Egypt, Iraq, KSA, Morocco, Algeria, Sudan, Qatar, Kuwait, India, Oman, Bahrain, Pakistan, and the UAE.

TRA is eager to support ICT activities, especially those dedicated to students and younger generations. The purpose of sponsoring these events is to bring information technology students together, provide them with the latest emerging technologies and offer them opportunities to discuss and share ideas about IT. In addition, the students benefit from experts and their experience with trends and challenges in the current IT landscape.

“The TRA endeavors to support ICT events in the UAE,” said H.E. Mohamed Nasser Al Ghanim, TRA Director General.  “We believe that such activities accelerate development in the industry and give participants the opportunity to compete and benefit from each other.”

“The TRA was established to implement general policy for the development of telecommunications in the UAE,” added Al Ghanim. “This development is necessary to fulfill the requirements of economic and social growth, to introduce competition in telecommunications services and to encourage telecommunications investment. Furthermore, the TRA sponsors and develops the interests of the UAE in telecommunications organizations both within the region and internationally.” Al Ghanim added.

The TRA is a regulatory body that oversees the telecom sector and the licensees in the UAE. The TRA is devoted to ensure the availability of telecom services in all areas of the country by enforcing rules and regulations for licensed operators, by protecting the interests of subscribers and by developing the telecom sector through implementation of the latest, most advanced technologies.
