TRA Sponsors the Third Annual Undergraduate Research Conference on Applied Computing

Al Ghanim: “All government and private entities should collaborate to produce more similar events”.

The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) sponsored the Third Annual Undergraduate Research Conference on Applied Computing (URC2011). The conference was organized by Zayed University and took place at its Dubai campus on May 4 and 5.

In cope with its strategy aiming at developing the human resources specialized in ICT, the TRA is eager to sponsor activities that enhance the status and role of science education in order to encourage the development of a workforce specialized in ICT. This will help to ensure that the UAE’s future needs are met.

“We are pleased to sponsor the Third Annual Undergraduate Research Conference on Applied Computing,” said H.E. Mohamed Nasser Al Ghanim, TRA Director General. “The event is a valuable forum that supports research and offers students the opportunity to polish their skills.”

Al Ghanim also affirmed that research is the foundation of any development process and expressed that all government and private entities should collaborate to produce more similar events.  

The purpose of the (URC2011) conference is to promote undergraduate research at educational institutions in the UAE and throughout the Arab world by providing a symposium for students to present their work and interact with other young researchers, faculty, and industry leaders.

The conference included presentations from students as well as from leaders in academia and industry. In all, over 350 participants from nine countries contributed to more than 120 research projects. The projects were introduced with oral presentations enhanced by posters and visual aids.
