TRA participates in the UAE Forum in Information and Communication Technology Research (ICTRF 2011)

Telecommunication regulatory Authority (TRA) participated in the UAE Forum in Information and Communication Technology Research 2011 (ICTRF2011) held on 15th May 2011 in Abu Dhabi.  

The TRA is one of the key sponsors of the event which was organized by Khalifa University of Science, Technology and Research (KUSTAR), and co-organized by the Emirates Advanced Network for Research and Education (ANKABUT), and ETISALAT-BT Innovation Centre (EBTIC). The event is also sponsored by ETISALAT, the ICT Fund, and technically sponsored by the IEEE.

Speaking on the participation of the TRA in the event, H.E. Mohamed Nasser Al Ghanim, TRA Director General stated that: “Since its inception, TRA has been committed to developing the practices used in the field of the telecommunication sector in the UAE in order to optimize the kind of services we provide, and this involved being part of researches conducted in technology and information, in order to achieve our goal”.

“Hence, our participation in the functions of the UAE Forum in Information and Communication Technology Research (ICTRF 2011) falls in the heart of strategies aimed at providing a world class services in the field of telecommunication and information, and to ensure a safer e-environment for our users in the UAE.” He added.

The 2011 forum was held with the theme “Creating Impact through ICT Research and Innovation”. Dr. Eesa Bastaki, CEO, ICT Fund, Chairman of IEEE, UAE Section, delivered a keynote titled “Made in UAE Sold Globally: Why is it vital for our National Interest?”. The forum included sessions on: 1- Initiating Research and Innovation through Network Enabled Applications, 2- Achieving and Measuring Impact through Research Funding, 3- Emerging Research Areas in ICT. The main topics in these sessions will be presented and discussed by prominent invited international speakers. This year’s forum is a continuation of the 2010 version held in Abu Dhabi, KUSTAR campus in May 2010, which attracted academics and industry professionals from the various ICT sectors. It witnessed the participation of academics, researchers, and industry professionals from the fast growing ICT sectors in the UAE and the region.
