The UAE, represented by the telecommunication authority (TRA), participated in the 15th telecommunications Arab Ministerial meeting that was inaugurated yesterday in Beirut. The delegation of the UAE was headed by H.E. Muhammad Nasser Al Ghanim, TRA Director General.

The UAE delegation also included Mr. Tariq Al-Awadhi, TRA Director of Spectrum Affairs, Nasser Bin Hammad, TRA Senior Manager of International Affairs, Salim Obaid Al Shaeih, Operations Assistant Executive Director in Emirates Post, Abdullah Kalandar, Operation Manager of Emirates Post, Muhammad Rashid Al Sharhan, Executive Director of Emirates Telecommunications Corporate.
Commenting on the participation, H.E. Director General Al Ghanim noted that one of the main topics on the agenda were linking Arab countries with an internet network through access points and the issue of Top Level Domain related to the (.arab), in addition to topics related to access to the fourth generation for mobile networks and mobile rates among Arab countries in order to reach to better rates which will reflect positively on users during roaming in Arab countries.
He explained that the UAE participated in the preparations of the conference through concerned committees and teams; it also presented all work papers for the topics on the agenda of the Arab telecommunications ministerial meeting.
“There was a pre-meeting paper presented by the UAE delegation related to the domain names of the internet, and as you know, the UAE is managing the (.Emarat) domain name. The infrastructure of the UAE in the field of telecommunications is one of the best worldwide, and other Arab countries can benefit from it, we in the UAE can also support the Arab League and the Arab countries with their domain names.” Al Ghanim added.
He also referred to the connections with the brothers in Lebanon and other Arab countries, and that the UAE expertise and experiences are available for helping Arab states including Lebanon.
Al Ghanim stressed the importance of holding such conferences because the telecommunications sector is one of the main vital sectors in our present world, and the importance of communications among Arab states in this regard, referring to the point that the telecommunications sector is a vital one for all Arab countries, and it is a main support to all Arab economies.
