aeCERT Demonstrates New Web Defacement Detection Technology in IDEX 2011

February 21, 2011

The United Arab Emirates Computer Emergency Response Team (aeCERT), one of the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) initiatives, demonstrates one of its latest Web Defacement Detection technologies during the International Defence Exhibition and Conference (IDEX) 2011.

The new Web Defacement Detection technology is one of the monitoring services, designed to monitor websites of the constituents against any possible defacement. The WDD monitors websites round the clock, so that if an attacker manages to penetrate the website, and maliciously changes its visual appearance, both aeCERT and the affected constituent will be alerted momentarily in order to investigate the incident, recover from it and build the required defense mechanisms against the attack to ensure that it does not repeat again.

The drive of introducing this service has been the increasing number of affected government websites with the web defacement attacks and the absence of the instantaneous detection and alerting approach. This service will ensure that the websites are monitored continuously, and this will add a great value in terms of security, incident response and brand protection.

The United Arab Emirates Computer Emergency Response Team (aeCERT) was established in 2007 in order to raise the security awareness and build a safe cyber culture in the country. aeCERT is structured in order to provide services based on the constituency model. The constituency base belongs to multiple sectors, which consists of government, law enforcement, banking and academic sectors. Over the past two years, the number of constituents has increased to 75 constituents, with the majority belonging to the government entities and law enforcement agencies.

Moreover, aeCERT provide 30 services covering proactive and reactive services provided to the constituents with the aim to elevate the cyber security of the national critical infrastructure in the UAE. These services are divided into five categories, which are Awareness and Education, Advisory through Communications, Monitoring and Response, Research and Analysis; and Security Quality services.
