Growth of Malicious PDF Files
ATTACKS TARGETING VULNERABILITIES IN .PDF FILES HAVE INCREASED TREMENDOUSLY.
Attacks targeting vulnerabilities in .pdf files have increased tremendously. This is an attack where an exploit is embedded in a .pdf file, then the .pdf file is sent to a victim. If victim opens the .pdf file (usually to read it), an exploit is triggered which hacks Adobe Reader and gives the attacker control of the system. According to McAfee, in 2007 and 2008 less than 2% of reported malware infections were from malicious .pdf files. However, in 2009 the number reached to 17% and 28% during the first half of 2010.
Tip: Keep all your Adobe systems up-to-date and scan all files & Email attachments with an up-to-date Antivirus program before opening them.
