ITU Membership

The UAE has joined the International Telecommunications Union (ITU), the United Nations specialized agency for information and communication technologies in 1972. Since then, the UAE has been actively participating in all the activities and events of the ITU as the TRA is keen to effectively represent the country in regional and international ICT forums, in line with the UAE Vision 2021.

The ITU activities

The ITU has three main sectors of activities; the Radiocommunications Sector, the Telecommunication Standardization Sector, and the Telecommunication Development Sector, in addition to study groups, focus groups and other meetings. Moreover, the ITU organizes global meetings and events such as the ITU Telecom World, which bring together government representatives and other specialized entities to exchange ideas and expertise, and discuss studies and major international topics in the telecommunications and information technology sector.
